The nature park "Koenigsstein" is largely about 15,000 hectars. The 15 miles long limestone burr is limited by unaffected mixing and coniferous forests, which change into deeper positions into tradionell managed landscapes. In the co- existence of the "European Ecological Network" - concept are oeko- touristic, cattle breeding and agriculture lastingly to be developed and a further cutting of the forests to be prevented.

Since 1938, the preventive measures were expended step by step. 1990, the "Koenigsstein" explained together with 11 other areas by a ministerial decree as a national park. So far there were no centralized preventive measures for the entire park area. So far different organizations for the management of the parkes are responsible. Thus there was no coordinated procedure, in order to protect the long-term protection of the area.

The forests arount the "Koenigsstein" were the main zone of the Carpathian Large Carnivore Project. This community project of the German game-biological society, the Romanian state forest administration and the Forest Research and Management of Institute as well has the goal to receive survivable populations of wolves, bears and lynx as their habitat in the Carpathian Mountains of Romania.
