The 2100
hectares of Auwald at the Danube between Neuburg and Ingolstadt are to
receive their origin function as a refugium for rare animals and plants and as
flood area back. On 11th of September 2003 according to secretary of the
environment Werner Schnappauf was started a
European-wide singular Auwald project with a symbolic flow. Bavaria, which becomes Wittelsbacher equalization fund (WAF) as well as the district Neuburg Schrobenhausen and the two cities for the project in the next four years approximately ten million office to apply to have. Substantial goals of the project are the renaturing of the Auwald of the current condition with hardwood again back to soft forret trees. Over gutters and tide hollows Danube water in the dust realm of the power station mountain home is rerouted with Neuburg out and in the Auwald. A part of the water can seep in the close wood and stabilize thus the upper ground-water layers, which went since the channel regulation and with the building of the barrage weirs partly clearly back. At the same time the constantness of the river for the fish is improved clearly. The water animals can move then between Kelheim and Bittenbrunn nearby Neuburg on a length of nevertheless 35 miles again more freely and follow their natural ascent urge. |
A further substantial goal of the project is the flood protection. By new military lay close and air-locks can be substantially in former times flooded a very large area with high water levels. That might bring for the cities and municipalities at the underflow a clear discharge, so the experts to the water management. The Rhine Main Danube AG, those together with E.On the hydroelectric power plants on the Danube operates and uses as well as the WAF as an owner of the Auwald is important partners with the ambitious plans, thanked the Minister yesterday. Then it gave the command and it by strong pumps symbolically "was flooded". If the water-structural measures are final, is to be opened as a rule two to three times per year for in each case five to ten days the portal. The Auwald in this region is singular along the Danube in the Central European area. Only around Vienna one meets on surfaces with a similarly valuable character and comparable size. |
