Statement out of the Publication at the Lock Source
in Donaueschingen: At this place the Danube River will be starts. Originally it´s flowed at the lock past, about 2 km parallel to the Brigach and united itself with Brigach and Breg to only one river: the Danube River. When around 1820 the lock yard was transformed, the small river Danube led into an underground canal directly into the Brigach. Already at Roman times this source of the almost legendary Danube was famous and target of imperial attendance. In the 5th and 6th Century it gave this settlement of the Esko at the Danube his name: Donaueschingen. |
